BEWARE OF THIS PRODUCT: Garnier Summer Body

I love Garnier products - in fact they are the only ones that I will put on my face. Although I do suffer from Eczema and have been only using E45 lotion for the past 6 months, I thought I would pick up a bottle of Garnier Summer body lotion- a tan moisturiser.
I have used this twice in total, the first time I used it I noticed little red bumps all over my skin, especially on my tummy, however I put this down to a bad reaction to the metal of a new belly bar I had put in recently and thought nothing of it.

I know it's not all that clear but this is my stomach and the little red bumps all over it, the same bumps are on my legs and back.

This morning, I woke up to insane itching all over the areas I had applied the tan, like this...
Worse again, the inside of my arms and back of my knees look like this...

Sorry for having to post this disgusting picture, but you all really need to know about this. Especially as I tweeted about this about an hour ago and I got so many replies saying this had happened to other people too!

I am thinking that this may be a bad batch, so if any of you have had a similar reaction, check your bottle as it may all be from the same batch (batch no printed above the barcode?)

So yeah, I would not recommend buying this product and I will be contacting Garnier about this, especially since this is not an isolated case!.
I have taken an antihistemine and I am off to the pharmacy now to get something for this, if you can't tell from the pics, my skin is in absolute agony. The big white heat lump things are becoming more prominent now as I am typing this, and my skin is burning hot!

  3. Oh, that looks really bad & painful.
It's so weird because like you said Garnier are very good products.
I hope that Garnier is going to do something about this, because this is def NOT GOOD!
I hope you feel better soon!

  4. You poor thing! It looks really uncomfortable :(. I've used Garnier Summer Body quite a lot, a bottle and a half lot. I've thankfully never had any problems so perhaps it is a bad batch or it's just not suitable for your skin type, I don't know. I just wanted to put in my input that I've used it and been fine. Hope your skin clears up xx

  10. Ouch that looks super sore! I suffer from eczema too so I always do a test patch when I use a new product =) I use Palmer's Natural Bronze body butter which isn't too bad though it is really streaky ( though that's probably due to it being the first tan type product I've ever used). Hope your skin gets better soon a sorry for my little ramble...I do this alot ;) xxx

  17. I've used this for YEARS and never had any problems but the last couple of bottles I've had have bought me out in little red spots all over my chest. They only last a day and deffo aren't as bad as what you experienced (hope you're OK now btw) but I'm very upset that I may have to stop using this. I wonder if they've put some new ingredient in it?

  31. It's happened to me too, in the 3rd use, the worst is inside elbow. It's strange most have it here and the neck , must be because the skin is thinner ? I'm not and have never been allergic to any product . What's in this stuff ..acid?

  32. New bottle from 2015, same reaction :( It looks grim and it's so itchy!

  33. same thing has happened to me. applied it to my neck and chest as I bought quite a low cut dress for a wedding party and was very white. Now i'm red and bumpy and itchy instead! have used other holiday skin products in past without any problem and other garnier products without problem. Think there is definitely something wrong with this product! :-(

  34. The same happened to me, i have a review on my blog! And it's so weird because at the start it was completely fine! my batch number is 36M300 though!

  36. Wish I'd seen this before I put it on last night - including on my face - oops. I've had no reaction on my body but my face is full of a red bumpy rash and very warm and clearly they haven't changed whatever it was that caused yours!

  37. Same thing here, my legs are full of small bumps, doesn't feel like normal skin anymore. Thank you GARNIER for this awful product.

  41. It's 2018 and the back of my legs, thighs and inside of my elbows are extremely dry and made the skin all tight and horrible along with a red rash with it. Horrified and upset. How did you all clear yours up? Did you complain to Garnier?

    1. It has done exactly the same to me. Red rash on back of knees and elbows dry and red especially when I have a shower and get out it looks like I've been burnt! It goes down but I've got steroid cream for it, I don't actually know how long it'll take to clear. Does anyone know? It's a similar texture to eczema and I've never suffered with eczema in my life!

  42. You could be allergic? If it has an ingredient that is common to cause skin sensitivity or allergy then it may be down to that. You should always do a test patch before trying new products especially ones which involve your skin, eyes, or hair. Next time perform a test patch before applying to large areas.

  43. Just stumbled apon this after having a bad reaction from it, I now know why my legs are in agony and itching so much. The rash hasnt seemed to go down and its been 4 days. Might need to try a stronger cream😭
